Weather Proof Your Car!!

What you need to know to get where you’re going this week!

Even with temps below zero and what seems like a foot of snow laying around Kansas City the fact is, most people just can’t avoid getting out. Here are a few tips to make sure your car will start and get you to where you need to go in this winter wonderland!

First things first, avoid scraping ice and brushing snow off your windshield!
Cover your windshield with something! A car cover is perfect but if you don’t have one like most people don’t try a trash bag, blankets, or even your cars floor mats.

Can’t get your windshield wipers clean?
Wipe them down with rubbing Alcohol, it should break down the gunk and prevent ice from forming.

Locked out due to frozen locks?
Heat your KEY with a lighter or match and immediately put it in the key hole. It should work like a charm and you’ll be impressed with yourself! Spraying WD-40 in the lock also works.
If you don’t have access to a lighter or WD-40  try putting your thumb over the hole for a few minutes or as long as you can stand it. While you’re doing that keep the key in between your legs, with all that body heat you might just get it thawed!

Stuck in the snow?
Try putting your cars floor mats behind or in front of your tires for traction. If the snow is too deep and you don’t have a shovel try removing a hub cab and digging your way out, then try the floor mat trick.

Still stuck?
Here are a few number to have handy in case something does happen and you need help.

Don’t Let Your Thanksgiving Left Over’s go to Waste!

There are several things you can do with your left over’s that won’t have you eating Thanksgiving dinner all week!!
Whether you have a ton of Turkey or Mash Potatoes there’s always something you could do with it! Here are a few of my person favorites…

1. Mexican Style Enchilada’s with leftover Turkey: Simply buy a packet of Enchilada Seasoning and follow the directions on the back. Use your left-over Turkey instead of Chicken. I recommend layer all the ingredients in a pan for a super easy Enchilada casserole. So much easier then rolling each individual tortilla!!

2. Sheppard’s/Pot Pie: Simply buy a frozen Pie Crust, precook it for a few minutes, throw in some Turkey, green bean casserole, cooked veggies, stuffing, whatever you have. Pour gravy or it and Top with Mash Potatoes, bake until hot. Serve with extra gravy and a side of Cranberry sauce. So good!!

3. Easy Turkey Sandwich: Throw some Mayonnaise and cold Turkey on a roll… Perfect for a quick snack! (Zest it up with a drop of Cranberry sauce!)

4. Mash Potato Casserole: Brown 1lb ground beef, add a little chopped green peppers & onions, a can of corn if you like. Throw it together in pan and top with left over mash potatoes. Bake until hot. I recommend adding cheese the last few minutes of baking. Serve with Salsa or ketchup which ever taste you prefer!

So really in my opinion, pretty much anything you can make with Chicken you can make with leftover Turkey. Be creative and experiment with it! Other idea’s to try with leftover Turkey are things like Turkey Chili, Turkey Noodle Soup, Turkey Tacos, Burritos, Nacho’s, the list is endless!!!

Sides are important to!! Try some Fried Potato Pancakes with left over Mash potatoes or sweet potatoes! Cranberry Salsa is yummy and easy to make! Sweet potatoes wantons are delish as well!!

It doesn’t matter if you spent all day cooking it or if you were sent home with it; don’t let it go to waste!
It’s important we all save money whether you live in an Apartment or your dream house!

For more ideas from a real cook check out Rachel Ray’s website, it’s one of my favorites! http://www.rachaelray.com/food/collections/thanksgiving/index.php?cat=5

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and if you missed out on left over’s this time, be prepared at Christmas…..Show up with your own Tuber Wear, HA!

Let the Holiday Festivities begin!!

Black Friday Is Almost Here!! Are You Ready??

Almost all of the major Retailers have already come out with their Black Friday Ads.  Some chains such as K-Mart & Sears started offering Black Friday deals on Halloween and will offer extra discounts each Friday until Thanksgiving.

For the 3rdyear in a row Wal-Mart will not release exact Black Friday deals until the day be before.  However they are offering hundreds of items on sale the entire month of November.  Wal-Mart also just announced they will be keeping stores across the nation open 24 hours a day throughout the Thanksgiving weekend.

If you’re on a Budget like most of us are, be sure to check out your Thanksgiving Day News Paper Ad’s. Some stores are offering Night Owl Sales, sales that last the night of Thanksgiving only, while other stores are offering Power Hour Sales.

You’d probably be surprised to find how many stores participate in some type of hourly Sale. So, go over the Ads and plan ahead! When you find an Ad offering a deal on what you are looking for, cut it out and take it with you!! Having that will help eliminate any confusion you may encounter due to a new or temporary Sales Associate.

Here are a few website you might find useful. They can you break down Black Friday Deals store by store.

Lastly, let’s all remember to be on our best behavior this Black Friday!  Keep in mind; you have no idea what the person next to you is dealing with, so play it safe, be kind and courteous to everyone!

HAPPY SHOPPING AND GOOD LUCK!!

Halloween is on Saturday this year!!

Not only is Halloween on a Saturday this year, it also falls on Day Light Savings!

Meteorologists predict its going to be a beautiful fall like day in Kansas City!  That means kids all around, are already begging their parents to let them stay out an extra hour, are you ready for them?!?

To buy or not buy candy? Many Apartment dwellers face that question year after year. Every Apartment Community is different, some Leasing Offices go over the top for the holidays, and consider Halloween a kick off to the festive season.

What if your property isn’t as festive as the one down the block? Here are 5 fun and easy tips to increase your chances for Trick-or-Treat success!

  1. Turn ON all your exterior lights and OPEN your blinds!
  2. Get a Pumpkin- Carve it- Paint it- Put a Hat or scarf on it- just make it fun!
  3. Decorate & Create! Use spider webs, brooms, Witch hats, etc in your entryway, Patio/Balcony, whatever space you have, personalize it with Halloween fun!
  4. Meet your neighbors! Sadly, many people do not know the person living 10 feet from them. Now is an excellent opportunity, or excuse, to introduce yourself and let them know it is safe to send their kids to your door!
  5. For some little ones scary can be scar, it might be better to stick with funny!

Most importantly, when you do get a knock on the door, open it with excitement; don’t immediately shove candy in the kid’s bag. Give them a second to ask for it; let them sing the old famous “Trick-or-Treat smell my feet song”!

If you aren’t up to date with the latest Super Hero or Disney Rock Star and don’t know what they are, ask them! Be sure to give extra praise to the kids that made their own costumes, they deserve it!

For the 30 seconds kids are on your doorstep make a difference! Pretend your entryway is a stage and let them act out their costumes, you might just enjoy the show!

Did you know Halloween is celebrated in different ways all over the world but Trick-or-Treating is mainly only done in the US and Canada. One survey showed last year 65% of American households decorated, dressed up, or  otherwise participated in the holiday…. Lets make it more this year!!
